Women show the way with bow

Who would have thought that the local and surrounding area residents would venture out of a Thursday night while the cold snap has been with us to come along to The Mountain View Archers indoor range.

The response to the free introduction to archery, where members of the public are able to take advantage of three free nights before deciding to join the national 3DAAA organisation and then the club, has been overwhelming.

This has meant the purchase of extra equipment to cater for the influx of potential new members.

After initial instructive sessions they are then invited to the club range and facilities to take part in a great day’s shooting amongst the forest on one of the five ranges.

These are usually set up with 15 life-like 3D feral animals, not native to our country, set in as near to their natural habitat.

The club also has a regular indoor league night where members compete for an end of year trophy.

The recent league shoot was a great event with the women finally showing their male counterparts just how good they can be, with one winning and the others close on their heels.

The results were as follows: Julieanne Moore 288, Mick Bush 286, Rod Hailes 284 and junior Brandon Stephenson with a great 280, congratulations to all.

Next week the club members will be contesting the State titles being held at Kendall.

This tournament will be under the control of the Hastings River club from Port Macquarie and always proves to be a popular event.

If you would like the chance to become an archer and get ready to compete in up and coming tournaments then come over to the indoor hall Thursday evenings 6.30pm at the Wingham Showground.

Remember, age, stature and gender are all catered for.

Call Allan on 6557 1187 or John on 6553 6018.
