A Wingham resident has showcased MidCoast Water’s innovative mapping systems on the world stage.
Geographical information systems officer at MidCoast Water, Michelle Kiernan, has recently returned from addressing an international conference on the innovations employed in the Manning and Great Lakes.
The conference, held in Stansted England, attracted representatives from European industry leaders to look at the management of mapping data.
Michelle’s attendance at the conference was part of a partnership between MidCoast Water and 1Spatial which saw the software company pay the travel and accommodation expenses of a MidCoast Water staff member to attend their annual conference and give an Australian perspective on data quality issues.
The geographical information systems team at MidCoast Water is responsible for developing and maintaining geographical information systems.
Michelle joined a lineup of international speakers at the two-day 1Spatial conference and spoke about the data quality problems MidCoast Water faced on formation, and how the GIS team implemented a process to address major data issues and gain control over the quality and integrity of the data.
Michelle again represented MidCoast Water when she attended the Spatially Enabled Global Summit in Canberra on her return from England, to present a similar talk ‘Spatial information and integration’.
