Wingham may only be a small town, but is certainly not suffering from a lack of luck.
An Oz Lotto player had extra cause for celebration this Australia Day after winning $10 million in the Oz Lotto jackpot draw.
Although the lucky Wingham winner is registered with the NSW Lotteries Players Club, NSW Lotteries officials have been unable to contact them by telephone to break the good news.
NSW Lotteries will continue to contact the winner and, in the event that they are unsuccessful, a letter will be mailed informing them of their massive windfall.
This follows the news earlier this month that a player from Wingham scored the $100,000 first prize in the $2 Jackpot Lottery. This player has been notified of their win.
Both winning tickets were sold at the Wingham Newsagency.
Cathy Palmer is the owner of the newsagency that is responsible for bringing so much luck to the area.
“I came into the shop last Wednesday morning and found out about the $10 million prize coming to Wingham, I simply couldn’t have asked for a better start to the morning,” Cathy said.
“This is big news for our little town. We’ve has enquiries from local papers and radio. Everyone, including me, is itching to see what happens next.
“Thank God they are registered with Players Club. At least they will find out the good news in the near future, rather than an unregistered player not checking their tickets for months. I don’t think we could take the suspense.”
Cathy is confident that more luck is on the way to Wingham.
“I believe that good luck comes in threes. Not that long ago we had two Jackpot Lottery wins along with a first division in a Saturday Lotto Superdraw.
“They say that history repeats itself and if Wingham can do it once, Wingham can do it again. I am very confident of that.”
The winning numbers were 19, 21, 15, 22, 26, 39 and 18.
The supplementary numbers were 18 and 37.
